This is one of those miss-haps that really suck. You have to take it all out and wash. Laundry detergent will help get the glycol and smell out of the cork and carpet. Rug shampoo also. You need to clean the floor. If the flood was real bad you may also need to remove side panels and make sure the insulation is not soaked. The glycol can over time ruin the paint on the floor and make it start peeling. Clean as much and as well as you can.

You want to take the core and try to find out why it failed. The common failure is for the tubes to erode from the inside-out first getting small pin holes, ( the strange smell), and then the final burst. The side tanks can also suddenly fail at the gasket-crimp. This occurs from small leaks there that destroy the crimps to any overpressure event that weakens the assembly or blows it a part now.

Recall you recent issues with the low coolant light? It may have been leaking then.

Dennis

After my disaster with the rear heater soaking the floor and carpet with coolant, I'm faced with fixing the floor. I'm going to toss the old carpet in favor of a new one. But the cork flooring underneath is a whole 'nother issue!

The cork/particle subflooring is soaked with antifreeze coolant. Is it possible to clean and dry this cork - or is it a goner?

When inspecting the floor, I noted that the floor is corregated steel and the cork is made to fit the corregations yet still level out the top surfaces. In other works the cork is thick and thin, thick and thin.

I'm thinking all new flooring, so if any of you Volks out there has re-done the floor - I would surely like to chat on the issues,

Thanks,

John
