Subject: Dometic refrigerator thermal paste source?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

I'm working on my '86 Westy Dometic refrigerator so at least some things can be kept somewhat cool and everything doesn't have to be kept in the cooler on cool weather trips.

Where can thermal paste be obtained for mounting the "ice-tray holder", otherwise known as the Evaporator Assembly, or "the thing that is supposed to get cold inside the refrigerator", onto the pipe that actually gets cold? Is there a source other than computer cpu heat sink paste? What's the best stuff to use?

I've seen Thermal Mastic suggested but this seems to be for duct sealant and is not necessarily for conducting thermal energy like cpu Arctic Silver and other products. The snap mounting is plenty secure without any adhesive mastic.

I was at a RV service place today and they had never heard of using a thermal paste like this. Does using thermal paste instead of mounting the Evaporator Assembly dry really help in refrigerator efficiency? I will, of course, put some Arctic Silver under the fan switch on the upper fins.

Thanks to everyone for their help.

Ed McLean
