I have to wonder what Dometic used originally. The stuff I removed
looked and felt like some kind of mastic.  Images:

I have read that it's possible to use too much paste and this might
serve to partially insulate the two parts from each other.

Be careful not to push the cooling unit on over the lip at end of black pipe.

On my old 182A, it was possible to take the cooling unit apart. I
redid the paste there too. Your newer Dometic likely has rivets
holding the aluminum cooling unit parts together.
