Like Mark pointed out the cross shaft should be replaced. Make sure though
to get the real VW part. The aftermarket ones I have seen for the most part
in my experience have been junk.
It would also benefit you to purchase the bushing kit for the cross shaft.
These parts were not available for awhile but are back for now.
