Actually, Ed Anderson converted Ford Econolines into Adventurewagens when the Vanagon went out of production, so you could actually run into a Ford camper at a meeting of cool VW people!

When I visited his shop he was working on one, and complained that nothing ever fit without tweaking because the Fords were not as precisely assembled as the Vanagon.
