New water pumps will be a little stiff. The seal is a friction type part. It will loosen once wet and run for a few minutes. The O-ring should work without sealant (should), but use a non-hardening sealant like Hylomar. The right Stuff will seal most anything. Did you also get the thermostat from GoWesty or a local store? If the later make sure it is correct! Dennis
