Subject: oil cooler
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

Thanks to all who responded to my question re: adding an oil cooler to my AAZ turbodiesel conversion. DM&FS suggested mounting the cooler below oil sump level to prevent drainback. Since the lines start from an adaptor above the oil filter mount, I don't think drainback will be an issue Ralph M, I think we're dealing with the same issue: a 1.9 L engine in a cooling system designed for a 1.5. I started out thinking I'd add water cooling capacity, but there's not much space up front and the cooling system is already a little sketchy with long hose runs, etc. I think oil cooling may do the trick. You don't need to change sensors to "match" your new 185F thermostat. But I don't think the thermostat is going to solve your problem either. I'm gonna try to keep it simple, use a thermostatic adaptor plate and a cooler sized close to the opening of the vent into the engine compartment. If I need to add a fan (relays, sensors, etc) I can do it later. One dumb question: On oil changes, do the hoses and oil cooler drain out the oil filter housing when the oil filter is removed? could be messy. The List is a rich resource. Thanks, all.
