I use judicious raps with a dead blow hammer. This is the part I get dyslexic about; rapping down NOT up on the face plate. ;) I spray a little penetrating lube at lip where face plate meets stainless steel. Years of cooking, sink water etc. tend to bind these parts together. Neil.
