It's unanimous--SCAM. The reason they want PayPal is so they can get their money back by complaining you misrepresented the van, etc. But the van will be long gone, taken by the "mover," who is her partner in crime, and you'll be battling Pay Pal for months.

Here is another one to watch out for: A buyer shows up "from out of state" on a Sunday and has only half the cash, then goes into some song and dance about how far he's come and he'll get the rest when the bank opens Monday, and tries to talk you into letting him test drive the van, etc. etc. He gives you a 50% deposit and drives off never to be seen again. Happened to a friend of mine.

I have started having a conversation with someone who is interested in my van which is on Craigslist. I need the collective wisdom of The List on this. I'm highly suspicious. But what to you Volks think>

Conversation:

Buyer (female) >> Hello, may i have your email address to discuss further? Because i dont know why your previous mail went to my spam folder and also to know who am dealing with. Thanks and looking forward to read from you..

and you can always get back to me at my contact email

Me: >> Hi! This should be a better connection. Feel free to ask whatever you wish.

Buyer:>> Thanks, i am just asking about it to make sure its in good condition as i am buying it for my Dad as a surprise and he doesn't know about it, so can you assure me i will not be disappointed? also no shipment involved as i have a mover that will come for it. I read an understand the ad quite alright, but there are few thing i would like to know about the item (1) are you the first owner (2 )Let me know its condition (3) Your last asking price. (4) Do you have a PayPal account ? Looking forward to read from you and Happy Easter Monday

Me:>> I'm sorry, but this is a cash sale only. No Checks, bank drafts or Paypal accounts. Strictly Cash On Delivery. If you can live with that, I will be glad to fill you in on every single detail I know about this van - the good AND the bad - including more pictures.

Just let me know.

Buyer: >> Am sorry as am not in the state presently, but i need to pay with my paypal so that my mover will be responsible for the pick up, you can log on to www.paypal.com to get one if you dont have a paypal account already and get back to me with the e-mail using to register so that i can transfer the fund to your paypal account... Thanks..

END OF LINE:

Yep - dead certain it's a scam. But what do you Volks think?

Thanks,

John
