A company called Rockford allegedly makes a high quality
elastopolymer (NOT rubber) "Duraboot" part #339-22 for Vanagon:

Rather pricey at $45 per boot and no online ordering from the website.

I was able to find some pre Asian invasion boots at the local small
town FLAPS store in places were the residents are not likely to
install new boots. The boxes were loaded with dust and leaky grease
from years ago. There was no barcode on the box and a brand name I had
never heard of. Probably early 90s stock that just sat on the shelf.
Best of all the price was cheap about $9 per boot and I took all 4
they had. That's what I'd suggest, as you travel to remote areas look
in local stores for old stock boots.

Just ranting about this because my original German made boots lasted
27 years. I put on new boots from GoWesty and 3 years later they were
all ripped or severely cracked looking like raku pottery.
