Marc, Getting my wife's Passat (V6 4Motion)  to go 260K didn't take a ton of work, but I do have to keep after it. It's been an awesome car but when the current set of tires wears out we're going to trade it in on yet another Jetta TDI Sportwagen. But hers will be an automatic.   Thankfully, I'm not a flight mechanic. I get to stay home when the plane goes on a trip. Our co-pilot is an A&P, so he gets to pull double duty when the Gulfstream breaks on the road. That doesn't happen very often, so it all works out. I bought one used in 2002 (might have been the first problem right there), that ran right for 3 months out of the 18 that I owned it. When it ran right, it was the most amazing car I've ever owned, but when the VW regional service rep told me there was nothing they could do to make my car right, I drove to the local Honda dealership and traded it in on a 2003 Accord, which my ex still drives. I got the '87 Westy. :) Regarding flight mechanics and/or Harbor Freight, I got nothing. Oh, and welcome aboard!
