When I was a young mechanic starting out, I totally bought into the "Snap On" marketing scheme and I certainly have a lot of Snap On tools in my box. But are they worth the money? Probably not. What you're paying for is the service of the tool guy coming by your shop every week. Now that I'm older and wiser, and better with my money, I have a Whole Pile of HF tools. I find them to be perfectly adequate and reliable. But out of habit, I always reach for my Snap On wrenches and ratchets.

Welcome Mike!
I too am a licensed A&P mechanic, with about 33 yrs experience on
general aviation, heavy's, training fleets, military jets (KC-135 A, Q,
E and R models and many years as an F-15 jet engine mechanic). I've
owned 5 Vanagons and my recent one is an '87 Westy GL. I have owned,
driven, rebuilt and restored over 40 VW's of all types and years over
the past 36 yrs. Now that I'm retired from the USAF, I'm not currently
working on acft (unless you count R/C model aircraft).
Hope to talk to you soon and look forward to assisting you with your VW!
