what can happen is the white plastic balls at the base of the shifter wear..
allowing the shift lever to sit lower then it originally did ..
which negates the reverse lock-out feature .

One simple fix is to have a spacer plate cut ...one that raises the
shifter back up by an eighth of an inch or so.

it's not rebuilding the base of the shifter area properly ....but it
works nicely.
