the 'shift box' under the floor is what determines the 'shift gates' on
the shifter..
including the push-down to access reverse feature.
normally one would be eyeballing under there once or twice a year..
and always spray lube in there any time you're under by the spare.
it's run and shift without the shift box, but shifter pattern is totally
loose and sloppy.
try it sometime.
