I've used a bolt with half of the head ground off. Use the same diameter as the I.D. of the hole ,unsure on the length but you can then reassemble all the pieces and have a mechanically functional mirror. As I have never done it to a van with factory mirrors there has never been a need for the wires. I have a few broken sets and am playing with the idea of just running the wires on the outside through the base and into the housing. I think it would look OK . Beside what you have now is junk and the failure is somewhat common .
