It sounds (no pun intended) to me that you are referring to a Behr indash AC or possibly the very similar DPD unit made in the US. When they were available, the add-on AC kits came with a radio relocation box in the areas you mentioned. I don't think anyone is selling those new these days unless you find a NOS one. There are some boxes which are 'close enough' which can be modified to fit. I have seen them but don't know who sells them.
