Thanks Dennis, that's what has to be done, I guess.

I know exactly what you talking about. You have a Behr AC possibly made for
an 80-82 in there. That radio box came with the Behr AC kit. Find someone
handy with wood and make a console to place it on top of the dash.

In a 1985 the A/C is blowing from the radio’s place in the dash. That’s why
they can’t install radio there. That’s why they are locating it below next
to the cover or, in the case of one that has A/T, behind the A/T shift box.
And this one has A/T. So, I’m looking for the kind of housing that would
fit there. Very few of you would know what I’m talking about.
It’s a bit of a long shot.
Best wishes,
Zoltan

Zoltan,
IF you mean a radio that will fit the hole in the dash, I have a
recommendation for a line of radios that don't have flashing lights, funny
colors, and that match the dash layout. Several years ago, I posted to "the
list" but here is a link on The Samba with pics and comments from others
about their experience with the radio. In addition to the fairly basic
radio I purchased, they have ones with USB, SD, etc. This is a small
company and almost certainly Sherry will answer the phone and if she can not
answer your questions, she will transfer you to a/the tech person. Customer
service like many of us grew up with. Great company to deal with as one of
the most recent posts on The Samba described their experience with them.

Hi to all,
I have this ‘85 van with A/T and A/C, and right now the stereo is in an
awful looking makeshift box that I would like to change to a much more
acceptable and good looking one.
Looking around the suppliers websites so far I did not see anything that
would help me.
Would any of you know if there is something that would house the stereo in
such a unit?
Thanks for the Great List,
Zoltan
