if I was going to buy an EV, I'd take my gamble on one with a 5 spd + 5 cylinder. As with a Vanagon, gauge issues can be due to several things. I haven't looked inside an EV but would guess that there's similarities. eg. fault(s) could lie in the sensor, plug, wire, contact(s), cluster itself etc. It's my understanding that a Vanagon is generally easier to work on than an EV.
