reading on van-cafe about fuel pressure regulators...

1. Fuel pressure regulator - Very uncommon but we have run into this one a couple of times. A blown fuel pressure regulator will result in the fuel pressure jumping from in the 40 lbs of pressure range to 100+ lbs of pressure. Van will run extremely rich. Tested with a fuel pressure gauge connected off the fuel line T near the oil breather tower.

This makes sense... It's like mine is VERY boggy... may be just way too rich at take off and thats the hesitation. Sounds like your issue as well...

I wonder if replacing this item might help...
