Yeah don, that's why Karl specified yellow coloured Teflon tape.

It is thicker, works on gas line fittings.

I've used specific pipe dope on gas fittings. Anaerobic sealing kind. Works well except the white stuff get everywhere when you are installing lines. Well it does for me.
