That's exactly what I did, and I remember being concerned about having to cut the foam, not knowing what I would find inside. I did not know the term "drift pin" before, either, though I had drifted a pin or two on some other device over the years. In my case, someone else had previously accessed the mechanism by slitting the cover rather than slipping it off (it is tight), and I also had to stitch that, but the stitches are virtually invisible to the eye.
