I don't know about Syncros - but on the 2WD vans there is a brass/bronze bushing that fits inside the fly wheel through which the pilot/input shaft passes and that bushing holds a felt washer in place over the pilot bearing to seal it and keep dust and debris off the flywheel from getting into the pilot bearing and wearing it out prematurely. Those not in the know - often punch it out and it never gets replaced and that's wrong. The bushing is an NLA item and you have to find a vendor who can supply them. TencentLife on The Samba was a source at one time. I don't know who else might have them - but I personally consider that bushing to be very important.
