Not really. I love my vanagons - but boy!! sometimes..........!

Last Monday I FINALLY got my 91 Carat out of the shop and on the road for the first time sine I have owned it - acquired 5 years ago - sat in a garage for 10 years prior to that. Even while I have had it - it's been in storage. But now - after some work - it';s on the road. And except for some minor tweaking that I expected - seems to be running pretty good -- until today! Coming home from the grocery store - the coolant light came on. The temp gauge began to rise - but I was at the top of the hill near home so I just let it coast into the parking spot. When I got stopped I could hear a steam hiss and then saw a cloud of steam coming from under and behind the left rear wheel.

UH-OH!!@

Couldn't tell where it was, but figured I was going to need some water so ran to the house and grabbed some I use for coolant makeup and went back to the van. The coolant tank was empty so I filled it up. Started the engine, and in a few moments I could hear and see water pouring onto the ground from somewhere - near the thermostat housing.

I figure the housing is cracked - though it could be a hose where I can't see it from up top.

Ol'Red ios still down, and now this. If it's not one thing it's another - times TWO - if you own more than one!!!

With both vans down waiting for parts - I'm down to using Shanks mare - again! How humiliating. And with all the Festivities of the Fourth of July right upon us. With having to order in parts - there is no way I an get this fixed for the weekend. I'll miss the fireworks and the barbecue!

Oh The Shame!!!

John
