The image on Alistair's page looks to be from a different slider door than my early (1984) slider door. The recess for the handle is different. Don't know if that matters in re the bushing thing -- my handle does have the original black bushing between the handle and the door.

Listmember Zoran Mladen has a few used older-style slider door handles laying around, I bought one. It will be here in a week or so, I reckon.
