Only later diesel Vanagon pans got the allen bolt and it comes out all the way to drain the oil, not like most of the diesel Vanagon pans. Buy a 1/4" allen head socket, which is slightly bigger than a 6mm. Then with a file put a slight bevel on the 6 edges of the 1/4" allen that insert into the bolt head so it will start into the smaller 6mm hole. Then use a hammer to beat it into the tight 6mm bolt head. The beating combined with the really tight fit should let you get it out. I have done this many times with stripped 6mm allens on various VWs, like CV bolts. Once you get the bolt to turn, wiggle the hammered in 1/4" tool free while the bolt is still supported.
