Good afternoon, Folks.
Please try your best to keep discussions civil.
It's understandable that some might become frustrated when what they considered sage advice is ignored. However, everything is relative. What makes total sense to you might be deemed insanity to another.
Your heart will likely appreciate your 'exercising' the delete key rather than getting worked up over something you completely disagree with.
Regards,
BenT

Just because I'm not a mechanic doesn't mean that I shouldn't drive this vehicle or be ashamed that I don't repair it myself or know how to I have checked all the fluids throughout this trip. It has not run hot according to the gauges either. And I'm in contact with both my mechanics, ones in Oregon and ones in LA. A lot of men have no clue about this vehicles or even how to repair their own.

>> Erin-If you are in Bakersfield it is about 100 miles to LA. That might cost you $500 to $800 bucks. That is much cheaper than a new engine. Offer to let the tow driver impound it till you can pay for it. Find a place to park it and take a Greyhound to LA and earn your money. Go back and get your vehicle when you can do it properly.
>> However, you have demonstrated that you have a history of NOT knowing how to repair your own van. Drive it to the next disaster, and deal with it when you get the diagnosis. This could be something small now- but after a hot day in the desert it will be something $big$. Pay now or pay later but you will pay for what is going on. And BTW- your mechanic will NOT come through for you if you cause more damage by dragging this thing in there totally ruined because you pushed it too far. He will call it "your fault".
>> Get a Bentley. Get a clue. Love this van or be prepared to keep paying others to do it for you. Pull over, check ALL the fluids (oil, water, trans) Check the fuel filter (replace it). Take it to an Auto Zone or O'Reilly's and have the "code read" to hear what is really going on. Heed the advice of the wise- or stop asking for it.
>> BTW- I am a FEMALE driver and I know enough to know when to stop. I have been working on VW's since I was a child, and you are breaking my heart in many ways. Everything I work to overcome as a female is being played out in these posts.
