Hi Eric; It's hard to get really good concert hall sound in a Vanagon using the 4" speaker hole that came with the bus. But, if you go that way, as I did, I have researched and found that the Pioneer (Pie In Your Ear) TS-D1002R two way speakers to be a good, not overly expensive, option. They will handle 110 watts, so they are hard to blow up, especially when the windows are open doing 50 MPH. The speakers do require the use of the covers that come with them, as opposed to the stock covers, so one has to use a spacer on the window crank to keep them from hitting. I know those spacers are available from FAS, and I suspect other vendors also. BTW, I recently bought a Custom Radio also. The CSS-5920E. On a recommendation from Samba, I also purchased the Metra 70-1784 to intergrate the Custom Radio plug to the Vanagon. It didn't fit as far as I can see. Mayhaps because the bus had an aftermarket radio installed when I got it. What are you using to plug in your new radio?

Hi Sound lovers,

I purchased a Custom Radio from a recommendation on this list and it is a perfect match for my needs. Only problem is the Sony speakers in the front doors both have little base and also bump the handles.

anyone out there have a speaker recommendation for good sound and flat mount? I want to use the stock position.

If you have a recommendation please give me enough info to google it or a link.

I realize a sub woofer may be my only real choice in the end but that sounds like a challenge to locate and install.
