My really inexpensive Volt-Ohm meter has probe leads and input jacks
that feel incredibly fragile. And, the probes don't stay seated very
well during use.

I've had a faulty jumper wire (used with VOM probe) lead me to believe
there was a fault in a given circuit. My guess is that crappy VOM
probe or probe jacks could easily do same.

As Scott may be suggesting, in hindsight, I should have spent at least
$15 dollars.
