You've actually had your hands on one, I think that trumps me a good deal. ;-) And using a temp sender is the obvious thing to do as you can actually calculate the delta-T instead of trying to swamp the errors.

About the only other thing I think I remember from this study back when MAFs were fairly new (this might have been a Subaru one?) -- anyway, I have a distinct impression that they mentioned that at that time the predominant cause of MAF failure was techs or owners trying to clean them and busting the wire. I offer this for entertainment purposes only, so to speak.
