I'd suggest bussing to LA and getting your money and come back to pick it
up.

For an idea on where to stay when you have no money, see this movie (Netflix
& YouTube): "Craigslist Joe."  Maybe Jean-Claude will let you use his Wi-Fi.
Joe circumnavigates the country travelling and staying for free with folks
he finds on CL. Riskier for a woman, but something to consider if you are
savvy, and you sound like you are, and may be travelling with a companion.
"Joe" also hitches a ride on a Vanagon that breaks down.

It's a fun movie and worth a look.
