Sure, it has been done many times. Years ago one prominent tranny rebuild vendor actually marketed it in kit form as a cheaper way to get the taller gearing in a wbx van. That was back when they were a lot more plentiful. I'm sure it was mentioned on this list over 10 years ago. I don't think you will be satisfied for long using that with an ALH though. What rear tire size?
