I recently had all window seals replaced on a 1984 westy, got a new front windshield, and installed the rear slider window from GoWesty. While the windows were out I was able to remove all rust and cut out some deeper rust issues that were in the corners of the front windows. The rusted area was treated prior to the replacement windows going back in. I want to replace my middle windows with the non-westy windows that open up more and don’t include a screen. Here are some I recently picked up from salvage. Keep in mind that I found two sizes of this window. It seems the earlier model vans had a longer window. They are easy to take apart, clean up the latch mechanize, and replace all seals.
I have a few questions.
Please take a look at pictures I took of these windows at https://db.tt/7VE4eBQU
First, does anyone have experience painting this aluminum window trim? Now that I’m going with newer seals and the GoWesty window on rear, I’d like to have paint the aluminum black.
Second, in the second picture you can see where the frame is coming off the glass a bit. It’s not that bad, but I wondering if I should use some sort of sealant there and clamp down.
