Hi Eric, The rubber boot should be for the wiring connector. If you lie the unit lens down, there should be 4 clips facing up at you, 2 on each short side - there are plastic pegs that fit under them. If you push the pegs towards the middle of the unit, you can lift the bulb holder part away from the lens part.
