Rattle fixed,

This morning my neighbor, a 75-year-old retired auto body expert stopped in to advise me on my van's paint. I took the chance to ask him about my loose wheel bearing cap. He took it from me and popped it on. I tried pulling it off and nope it was on correctly. I asked him why he could pop it on with no hammer or anything and clearly the shop I had the break work done at nor I could get it on correctly. He claimed it had to go on at a slight angle to break the air seal to fit fuly on. Now I have trouble believing that cap is air tight, but that darn thing is on just as nice and tight and straight as can be!

Everyone's advice is greatly appreciated and will be used if the cap slips off again.

It seemed to go on all the way but then just slide off again. Once it stops raining I'll give it a second try. The "pin" through the drivers side cap is the drive cable for the speedometer, which feeds all the way in through the hollow axle. The passenger side doesn't have that. >> >> Jim >> >> >> On Mon, Jul 7, 2014 at 5:38 PM, Eric Caron <ecaron1@comcast.net> wrote: >> Hi folks, >> >> Off and on I've noticed a metal rattle sound coming from my passenger side front wheel. today I pulled off the hub cap and found the small cover that lives in the center over the large nut was off and only held loosely in place by my old style metal bus hub cap. >> >> I pushed it back on but it pulls off again easily. What is supposed to hold this small cap in place? on the driver's side the cap has a small pin like thing coming out of the center. Not sure if this is holding it on or if the drivers side is different for some reason. >> >> so, how can I secure this small cap?
