Thanks everyone,

        Clearly I'm not the  first one to mess this up!  I now can open it easily thanks to to the tips.  The trick for me was to know to press the tabs in toward the center.  And to know that the single tab on each short side is between the end pieces.  Unfortunately someone broke off one end probably prying at it with a screw driver.  Sadly, probably what I would have  tried if I didn't have this list!

It is so easy now that I've done it once.
