there is ALWAYS RISK with just adding a bypass wire like that. perhaps you have already .. but until enough of the harness is revealed and inspected to be sure you've found ALL the melted/shorted stuff.. you really can't be totally. I'd sure carry two fire extinquishers ( SOP on these old rigs ) .. and have a way to get batteries disconneted like Right Now.
