well.. this is humorous ... I appreciate 'poor man's syncro' ... and indeed , it might keep plugging along through slop and mud n' snow and basically not let you down, and save you thousands over the repairs that syncro's demand on a regular basis...

think of a Syncro Vanagon as more as a Porsche ..

a person can make the case on paper that X sports car that costs 1/5th of 1/10th of what a good porsche model costs ... is a great deal and 'basically the same'.

but it's not .. it's not a Porsche, just like some other AWD van is not a Syncro .. just like some other watch is not a Rolex.

if you're happy with your ride, that's what's important.

speaking of Syncro's .. I have a rare one in my possession ..located in So. Oregon .. 1987 Canadian model Double Cab Syncro ( 5 seat, 3 door, pick-up truck with fold-down rear bed sides ) with strong running 1.9 TD AAZ engine . At today's wild high end vanagon prices, if totally showroom presentable and super roadworthy this could rig could command upwards of $ 30k. We're asking below half of that .. and seller is motivated. she needs a lot ..but she'll drive anywhere right now. have signed clean Oregon title in hand. Current registration too.

and it's not like these are for sale and available 'just any day' ..Hardly !
