Don 1st ~ It would make this thread a bit easier to follow, especially if someone wants to refer back to it in the future, If you would Stop Changing the SubjectLine ~ 2nd ~ Not that it really matters much for this Diag' but it might ~ If your ECU & Harness are, as you say, " same as the older Vanagons " ie 01/83 to 07/85 then it is DigiJet not Digifant ~ But since you do talk about it having an O2Snsr Heater Connection then it is, most likely, Digifant & from The Newer Van's 08/85 to ?/91 ~ I am a bit confused about " Sure enough, that O2 sensor plug (flat, four prong) was partly loose " as the only Digifant O2Snsr ConnectionConfig' that I am familiar with is a Square 2ProngConn' for the SnsrHeater & a Single SpadeConn' for the Signal ~ So I'm guessing that that Flat4 Conn' is from a Jetta Harness & has been Spliced into the Vanagon Harness somewhere between that Conn' & the ECU ~ I'd find that Splice & make sure it is in GoodCondition & maybe even address Replacing "That Pigtail" Sooner RatherThan Later ~ I also might Consider Switching to the O2Snsr&Wires that that ECU was DesignedFor ~ But I'm NotReallySure if that would be Necessary ~ I'll also say this ~ Get a Bosch O2Snsr ~ Bosch invented the the DarnThings ~ so you'ld like to thing they ought to know how to Build'emRight ~ & I can't recall ever having a Problem with 1 ~ ORR ~ DeanB
