I talked to John for half an hour or so this morning (the number he gave me yesterday did not work so I had to track down a good one). The poor guy had his stroke a almost a month ago, and he suffered through a week of misdiagnosis (the VA hospital thought it was high blood pressure and released him) before the found the real problem, a blood clot, thereby missing a window of opportunity to administer something that could have really helped him.

Then he spent a couple of weeks in rehab, and he's been out only since the weekend. He is getting around well, talked pretty well. His son (not the one he has been living with in Birmingham, but another son in Montevallo about a half hour drive away) bought him a tablet that he is slowly learning to use. The hand gestures are helping him to get his dexterity back.

One of the list members asked for his address, but John had forgotten it and the son wasn't around to ask, so he told me to call back tomorrow and he will have it.

We talked a lot about his Vanagons and getting him back on the road. It's obvious that the VA missed that diagnosis as well! He is still a sick man when it comes to his VW vans.

Jim
