Subject: WBX 4 spd. Transaxle 1-2 Shift Rod Fork FLAPS Replacement?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8

Hi all.

Has anyone found a plastic FLAPS type "off the shelf" part for the front shift rod fork tongue? I'm sure I can shape it as needed.

I know new parts exist but would like to get the job done now if possible.

Of note for any other curious shift linkage newbs, I found it interesting to see how the reverse lock out works on the later style 4spd shift box above spare tire. Please correct me if I'm wrong! In this image:

the shifter is in neutral, 3-4 fork toward 3-4 gears position. Arrows point to the 1-2 shift fork tongue (worn too short) and reverse "lockout" bump on RH (passenger side) 1-2 bracket. When shifting between 1-2, the side of the 1-2 fork tongue slides along the bracket face. Pushing the shifter down and into reverse moves the 1-2 fork tongue down, rearward, and toward the right over the edge of the 1-2 bracket. As such, the fork tongue passes over and to the RH of the reverse "lockout" bump. Still in reverse, as the shifter is allowed back up, the fork tongue is then "locked out" on RH side of bump on the 1-2 shift bracket. When this tongue is worn too short, it won't stay put on RH side of the "lockout" bump. It tends to slip over the bump making the shifter feel like it's in or near 1st gear but as in my case, transaxle remains in reverse.

Apologies for using any incorrect terms for the parts involved but hopefully it sheds some light.

Neil.
