Subject: '84 Westy 1.9L mysterious failure of starter motor
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

Occasionally the starter motor fails to turn over when I attempt to start the vehicle. It doesn't click, it doesn't make any noises. Twice AAA has come and started it for me. They crawl under the car and then say "try it now." Then I turn the key and the engine starts. 2 different AAA techs said the wire connecting the starter motor has a bad connection. It happened again today, and AAA got it started for me and I drove to the nearest VW mechanic, who happened to have a sweet Subaru powered westy on the lift. He was a very nice guy, cleanest office I ever saw. He waited for the engine to cool, then went under the car for a few minutes. He didn't touch anything. I goes to turn the key and it starts right up. He promptly informed me the connections are good, both the small wire and the large wire. He said he could charge me $30 to replace the connector for the small wire but it would be a waste of money. What is going on?   Alex de Cordoba (323) 801-6543
