There's a more modern way that doesn't require a flat surface to roll on. I have had one of these for about 15 years and it's absolutely indestructible. And fun!

Here is another way, if you can find the coffee cans. I have coffee cans that are as much as 30-40 years old that I use for various things, but I don't see them in stores nowadays, not even the ones described in this article. Of course, you would need a surface that the cans would roll on, also, not always available when camping.
