Subject: Battery isolator question
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

It's time for a second battery in my '85 Westy, the only thing I miss from the EVC I previously owned (other than its power). I'm wondering if it's worth the cost for a "smart" isolator vs. a "dumb" isolating solenoid. I also plan to install a permanently mounted smart charger hooked into the shore power circuit so I can just plug in the van for winter storage.

Any thoughts on the virtues or cost/value of a smart isolator like this one that gives preference to charging the start battery?

I've given away the fridge and will remove its solenoid for more room in the under seat compartment. Anyone been able to install the battery (deep discharge, Walmart standard serial warranty replacement, or golf cart), a smart isolator, and a charger under the driver's seat? Or is it best to put the charger under the sink where the now unused fridge outlet already exists?

Recommendations appreciated.

Thanks!

Stuart
