I just replaced my Spectre (aka. FLAP special) open cone air filter with K&N Apollo filter kit. The air flow sensor sits just behind the left rear tail light with just enough room for a filter, but not the additional hose. So if I run a 3'' intake hose to the right side, I can place the K&N filter there and connect it to the snorkel. This should help mitigate intake noise and give me fording depth that I will never use.

So far I came up with this alternative: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/ceet.php. It's rated to 350F and used in airplanes for air routing.

Another option are "intercooler piping kits" which are admittedly more robust, but also more expensive: http://www.cxracing.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=ICDK

I could go totally redneck and use this for extra heat soak action: http://www.lowes.com/pd_328922-131-L301_0__?productId=3240915
