Ha. Yes. That heat soak action would be optimal. ;)

The intake hose set up I have needs to be addressed at some point. It works but could be improved. ID of parts post MAF are stepped, not "smooth", and the Jetta Mk3 intake bellows is worse for the wear given how much I've twisted and turned it while doing my fetid R&D.

Between the snorkel and air filter box, I'm actually running something similar to the red neck option you point to. It "works" in that the air filter seems to clog less quickly than when I was running it w/o a snorkel. i.e. just the box in front of the LH tail light.

I'm likely not envisioning your intake setup properly, and you may have this part already, but as for the hose between snorkel and air filter, I"m pretty sure there's a low cost industrial type hose that can be used.
