Great. Thanks Dennis. I googled that part number you supplied. Seems to be the same part I have lying in a box somewhere .... back home.

Looking at p.20.3 In Bentley I see how my Vanagon charcoal filter was set up (while it was still an air cooled Vanagon).

When the mood and safe place to do so strike, I'll have a closer look at things
