I would not especially suspect the bulb itself..
but I do know that no amount of speciulation or wondering will substitue
for someone ...
ideally the original poster..
getting a philips screw driver in hand and removing the lens assembly..
then the bulb socket.
for those that don't know..
those lens assemblies are notorious for letting water get in ..
and for the light socket to be correded to total junk.
none of that can be determined with ACTUALLY **LOOKING** .
I posted a joke thing a year ago or so ..
'what is THE FIRST THING to do when there is ANY issue or problem with a
vanagon' ..
few people seemed to grasp this readily ..
the answer I was looking for is LOOK ...as in frickin' LOOK at the dang
parts or system ...
like duh..open the hood and LOOK around the engine compartment ..
or ..
visually and physically inspect the problem area, even for people that
think they don't know anything about electrical systems ..there could be
'anything' very obvious in there.
of my 11 vanagons ..I bet there are at least 10 ruined or rusted or
corroded to nothing front turn signal/parking light bulbs.
also ..always be suspect of someone putting in the wrong bult ( like
single contact where a double contact bulb goes ) ..
or putting in the right bulb incorrectly, and so on.
the vast majority of electrical issues are caused by neglect or faulty
workmanship..
and sometimes just the ravages of time of course.
but frickin' LOOK !
