I'm afraid Jim is correct. The only other thing outside of oil clearances, bearings, lifters, is a skyrocketing oil temp. It would certainly exacerbate problems in a worn engine. A severely sludged cooling system could cause your oil temps to go up excessively because engine heat would not transfer to coolant as readily. I would start with an oil temp and oil pressure gauges.
