Upon seeing the ECU, the first reaction of a mechanic at a VW bus meet I went to recently (Catherine Creek Oregon) was that someone reversed the leads when jump starting the vehicle.

I pulled the ECU and wiring from a non op '93/94 Jetta. The vendor had a great reputation, and the engine he sold me is indeed good, so I assumed same of the ECU and harness.

In trouble shooting the intermittent running issue, I spent many hours working on things I assumed I'd done wrong (wiring) or simply trouble shooting various parts and systems. All good learning experiences, and I did find faults in my wiring work, but the minor running issue was almost certainly due to the ECU.

A private email inadvertently reminded me of the 3 hall wires from distributor connector that were cracked and twisted together. I assume they must have shorted out at some point. The entire engine portion of the harness had cracks at quite a few wire casings.

Thanks for the input folks.
