Thanks Scott. The Jetta ECU bracket, as it mounts to the Jetta, has plastic grommet type pieces at the mount points where it fastens to the vehicle. However. I'm not certain if each mount point has this plastic part.

Of course I'm not disagreeing with you, but just to explain my logic, the copper trace on the circuit board that was burned, connects to ECU pin 1 which is a main ground connection to the ECU. since there appeared to be a short between the ECU circuit board metal frame, and this ground path trace in the ECU circuit board, thought maybe this was due, in part, to the ECU frame being connected to vehicle frame via he mount bracket. (As installed in my vanagon under he rear bench seat.
